PACEline CMD – The all-rounder from the PACEline product family

The SensorTeach function implemented in the CMD is a world first. This function enables the analog output signal to be automatically parameterized – during a production cycle. In particular, very fast processes that do not allow longer hold times for adjusting the measuring range benefit from “SensorTeach”.

The CMD charge amplifier measures very fast force, torque and pressure signals at frequencies of up to 30 kHz and can be used with piezoelectric sensors up to max. 2 million pC (pico-coulomb). The measurement range is freely scaleable and even signals of minimum strength are available at high resolution without quality loss via a second, internal measurement range; the CMD is thus eminently suited to measuring very small forces.

The very wide measuring range (from 50 to 600,000 pC with CMD600 and from 200 to 2 million pC with CMD2000) ensures guaranteed accuracy even in the partial load area. The CMD charge amplifier reliably records and evaluates small process values too.

Best price/performance ratio

The CMD operates reliably with both HBM transducers and data acquisition systems as well as third-party products. The standard 10 V analog signal output guarantees that the amplifier can be operated with virtually all measurement systems. Furthermore, the Ethernet interface enables measured values to be transmitted using the streaming method providing up to 1 kHz bandwidth. The CMD charge amplifier offers performance features that are significantly superior to third-party charge amplifiers – at the same price.

Integrated highpass filter

CMD has an integrated highpass filter that effectively eliminates the drift affecting piezoelectric sensors. No signal loss occurs with fast, dynamic processes, because only the static and quasi-static signal components are filtered. The advantage: The CMD is not overloaded, even with long measurement times.

Full TEDS functionality integrated in the charge amplifier

Of course, the CMD charge amplifier offers full TEDS functionality for automatic sensor identification. You save time during installation and the quality of test results is further increased.

World first: SensorTeach function

The so-called SensorTeach function is particularly useful for adjusting the measurement range. If this function has been activated, the measurement cycle is run through once prior to the actual start of measurement. Then the CMD automatically adjusts to the minimum and maximum values determined. The SensorTeach function is particularly suited to very fast processes that do not enable conventional calibration, for example, blow molding of PET or aluminum bottles using compressed air.

Charge amplifier offering robust quality

Of course, all signal inputs and outputs are electrically isolated to ensure easy integration into electric systems and machines. The CMD with its die-cast aluminum enclosure easily copes with harsh ambient conditions often found in manufacturing environments. It is extremely robust and complies with IP65 protection class.

CMD600-P – Digital charge amplifier with IP65 protection

Saving cost and space plays an ever increasing role in modern machine and system design. On the one hand, all components need to be as small and flexible as possible for integration into the machine or system – this saves space and reduces wiring effort. On the other hand, components offer enhanced functionality and it is essential that they allow convenient and flexible configuration and maintenance to further reduce installation and servicing cost.

The CMD600-P digital charge amplifier combines exactly these features. Its extremely compact design and high functionality, together with the IP65 degree of protection, enable it to be integrated directly in the machine near the measuring point. It has been optimized for use in harsh or dirty environments. At the same time, the risk of damage to the sensor lines connecting to the amplifier or the possibility of interference has been minimized. Connectors that are not required are securely sealed with protective caps.

Digital inputs and outputs and the Ethernet interface allow users to easily parameterize the device and monitor it during later operation. Integrated peak value detection and limit value monitoring functions enable control functions to be distributed and thus relieve the central control unit. Should parameters such as measuring range, limit value monitoring, etc. change later on, these can easily be adapted and stored in the device’s internal parameter sets. The command set implemented in the CMD600-P allows use in control systems as well as integration into the system visualization through to remote maintenance.

Industrial Ethernet Interface

Furthermore, the software included in the scope of supply allows ease of use and parameterization of the amplifier. It automatically identifies equipment connected to the network via TCP/IP, enables the IP address to be set (remote maintenance by Industrial Ethernet) and measured values to be recorded for monitoring and diagnostics.

The Industrial Ethernet interface permits direct transmission of all process monitoring parameters from the machine control to the CMD digital charge amplifier. If no computer or machine control with an Ethernet interface are available, the CMD can also be parameterized via the digital input. An LED status display enables diagnostics directly on the equipment.

Furthermore, the CMD charge amplifier software provides a line recorder. Measured values and measurement curves can conveniently be visualized online. This enables stored process values to be used for subsequent analysis of the machine so as to analyze the production process and further optimize it.

Integrated into the world of automation

CMD can be easily integrated into downstream automation systems using the measurement signal output’s voltage output that is electrically isolated from the mains (+/-10 V). The signal can be used either for transmitting the actual measured value or peak values.

The Ethernet interface enables the CMD charge amplifier to be used in networks through to remote diagnostics. In addition, CMD is suitable foroperation in controls used in production.

HBM provides software modules and programming examples needed for easy implementation in Simatic-Step7.

Integration into applications programmed under LabView is easily achieved – thanks to the CMD LabView driver and the examples available from thesystem CD included in the scope of supply and from the download area.

ePLAN

In addition to the industrial amplifiers HBM provides the appropriate ePLAN macros. They allow easy and error-free integration of the instruments in the project planning of the automation environment.

ePLAN Electric P8 is an engineering tool for modern CAE software supported by a database and facilitates consistent project planning, documentation and administration of automation systems. ePLAN macros enable users to easily integrate the process controllers in their project planning. Parts data, drawings and pin assignments are available in ePLAN Electric P8 immediately after import of the macros.

The free macros are available on the documentation CD included in the process controllers’ scope of supply and can also be downloaded here.
